We stayed at this hotel twice, one night before our cruise, and then one night after the cruise. What that means is that even if parts of this review sound a bit negative, we thought it was good enough to return for a second night.

Cost: Travelodge could be considered a budget motel, though it's definitely not one of the cheaper motels. But at least you can still here for less than $100/night.

Location: That depends what you're in Fort Lauderdale for. It's about six miles from the airport and the cruise port, so for those things, the location of this Travelodge is not particularly convenient. And they don't offer shuttle service as far as I could tell. However, if you're in Fort Lauderdale and want to get to the beach, this location is pretty good. It is not on the beach, nor can you see the beach from the property. I'm not even entirely convinced the beach would be within walking distance unless we went the wrong way to the beach. But you can find some beautiful beaches 1-2 miles from this location.

Cleanliness: This place does look run down a bit from the inside (and outside, too). Let's face it, it's not a new building. And being a budget motel, they don't have a lot of money to constantly make this place look immaculate. If you're going to a motel, though, you should already know not to expect the Ritz Carlton. I've been in other motels that are a lot worse than this place.

Amenities: There's an outdoor swimming pool and continental breakfast (also outdoors, but on the second level and overlooking the road that goes by so not great scenery here). The breakfast was a little below average (no fruit, little or no bakery selection). They had juice, milk, cereal, waffles. There was a computer in the office for checking in for your flights. Free newspaper in the office.

They had DirecTV, but the room we had the first night, it wasn't working in our room. We tried a number of things on the remote, without success. It didn't help that the onscreen menus and guides were all in Spanish. We had to have the guy from the office come and try to get it figured out, and he eventually got it working for us.

On our return visit, when we arrived there, the lights were on and the "open" sign was on in the office, but the door was locked. I did see a yellow warning sign in the window about No trespassing and that if you're told by the police to leave that you have to comply, and that an affadavit was on file. I was starting to think that the police had shut the place down for some reason, but fortunately after about two minutes the office clerk returned to get me checked in. We did notice this yellow sign on the window of a restaurant as well, so it must be a common thing in Fort Lauderdale.

They must have REALLY cleaned up, or switched owners. Glad to hear you had a better experience with TL than I did : )

Horrible Travel Lodge in Ft. Lauderdale Sep 11, 2009
I want to begin by saying I'm a firm believer in "on vacation a lot of the times hotels are just a place to sleep." I'm not a picky person & will sleep pretty much anywhere as long as it's clean & appropriate for the trip.

We booked this hotel online before we left. We were just looking for a cheap place to stay, but this goes beyond your typical "you get what you pay for."

We arrived & instantly saw that the pool was closed down, which was not stated on the website, and was roped off with caution tape. The building was exremely dated, lobby smelled overly musty, & the hallways/stairs of must & urine. We were appauled! The website also states that the beach is "right across the street" when in reality it's across the street from several high rise condos (you can't even SEE the beach.) To make matters worse you have to actually cut through one of these high rise condos to get to THEIR private beach, we were told that this was OK by our hotel but we never tried.

Still just arriving we get the key hoping for at least a decent room until we found something better, which we did not get either. The beds were supposed to be queen & looked more like slightly extended twins. The carpet was FILTHY! The bathroom had several severe mildew spots. Toilet was broken and dirty. The tile on the floor and shower were stained & badly need replace, if not recaulked. The ceiling had a horrible water stain. Furniture was old off white desks with cigarette burns on them. The air conditioner was missing the cover so it was just the metal dust covered inside jutting out of the wall, which was on and I won't even attempt to explain the smell it was emitting because I'm at loss for appropriate words.

We immediately went to the front desk made a complaint & demanded our money back which was initially refused & we were offered another room. I told them I refused to stay anywhere in this hotel & explained why including the fact that Travel Lodge would probably like to know how this independant owner was soiling the chain name...needless to say we received our money back. NEVER AGAIN!

Travelodge on A1A Fort Lauderdale Oct 22, 2008
This place has a great location but lacks a good continental breakfast.

Travelodge has free wifi, swimming pool and all the basic amenities a hotel has.

Its not a 'great' hotel but with the corporate discount I got, it was worth it!

Across the street is a McDonalds and bunch of other stores, right by the beach.
