Former Fighting Cocks Railway Station Jan 15, 2017
I have listed this place in the things to do section as it is an important place for people interested in railway history. The Stockton and Darlington Railway, which was the first public railway in the world to use steam engines, had a stop here. Passenger and cargo service started as early as 1825 (although steam engines were only in regular use for passengers from 1833 on). Later, a part of the line was move further south to connect Darlington's new bank top station. Therefore, the passenger station was moved to the new line and Fighting Cocks closed for passenger service in 1887. Cargo service continued well into the 1960s. Today, you can see a former station building turned into a private home, the outline of the former railway line which was turned into a walking path and the remains of a wall which was part of a side cabin.

If you just want to consider it as a food option, I really can recommend this place. Have a look at the restaurant section for that.
