Fountain on Place Saint-Michel Dec 23, 2016
At the heart of Quartier Latin and close to Paris Universities, the Place St-Michel is a famous Paris landmark. The fountain in the center of the square was created by French sculptor Davioud in 1860 and represents Saint Michel, protector of France, slaying a dragon.

The cafés and shops around place St-Michel and place St-André-des-Arts are jammed with people, mainly young and, in summer, largely foreign, while the fountain on the place is a favourite meeting spot.

Place St Michel; fountain by Davioud Oct 07, 2006
In the centre of the Quartier Latin, just west of the tourist heart at the rue de la Huchette, and close to the River Seine, you can see the Place St-Michel. This is a small triangular square, with a large fountain that undoubtedly will draw your attention.

The fountain was created by the French sculptor Gabriel Davioud in 1860. The bronze sculpture in the middle is made by Francisque-Joseph Duret, who was inspired by a Raphaël painting in the Louvre which depicts the figure of Saint Michael and the devil (photo 1). On either side of the fountain you can see two large water spitting dragon-like creatures by Henri Alfred Jacquemart(photo 2).
