I have had my kayak for over 2 years and I never had the chance to take my father out on it. No better place to experience the kayak than at Olita River State Park. So, early in the morning I headed to my parents house to pick up my father and the kayak, which is quite an ordeal. We have to pull it out of the back yard, get the seats and the paddles, and finally get it on top of my roof. From there its the crazy ordeal of fighting with tying it to the roof without it moving around. Final…

We spent our first full day in Miami eating Cuban food and shopping for warm weather appropriate clothing in South Beach. When not wasting time between appointments, we drove to a couple of potential sites to hold our wedding. One of our choices for a wedding site, based soley on web research, was the Miami Beach Botanical Garden. Although it wasn't available on the days we wanted, we did enjoy walking around the 4.5 acre garden. It's like an oasis in an otherwise concrete area of Miami Beach…

Gibsonton is not big enough to have its own Golden Arches. Riverview positioned 27.87 degrees north of the equator and 82.31 degrees west of the prime meridian has one about 1 ½ miles away. Riverview was founded in 1856 on the Alafia Rivers south shore. It was known as Peru because Peru was an Indian name for straight part of the river. The Peruvian Mining Company, which mined phosphate from the Alafia took its name from the settlement of Peru. The term Alafia is translated as "River o…

By Sunday midday, we were on our way to the Carnival port to finally begin the voyage. As soon as we got on the ship, I knew the next few days would def be well spent. The decor and overall ambience were awesome.

We started our morning at Soarin' over in the Land pavillion. (This space has changed so much from our first visit: Kitchen Cabaret became Food Rocks before being replaced by Soarin'; the first movie we saw is now a Lion King movie; the boat ride is a bit different; food court and shop offer different choices; I think the rotating restaurant is the closest to how things were.) My family really likes this ride and it helps that it has the FastPass option. I have always wanted…

This is a test run before I send the link out to everyone.
I'm here in Hilliard, Florida anxiously awaiting my flight to Buenos Aires on Friday. This week news came about my homestay. I'll be living with a woman and her son in their apartment. They both work in the Argentine government - one for the Supreme Court, one for the Office of the Interior. I will have a "small but nice and luminous" room in a cool part of town called Belgrano with lots of little shops, museums, and restaurants…

All good things have to come to an end.In the morning, we went through "customs" on the ship and deboarded, we hopped on a bus to the Everglades. We took an airboat tour through part of the Everglades called Gator Park - it was really cool. Our tour guide was a little crazy but fun, he made these bird calls and his "buddies" would come and land on his hand. He would also feed the gators, too. After the airboat ride, we went to a gator show where the trainer was talking about how to handle a g…

I started traveling with DaVita not far from home, in Deland, FL. This is where I spent 8 weeks training with 8 others. We had a great time, many fun dinners. A day at MGM studios. We did a cook in where I made home made chili (I was told I should sell it!) and my friend made the best home-made corn bread I've ever had in my life. We spent one of those 8 weeks in Ocala (not much do do there) and a couple of them at home. I may have a few pictures to add, ha…
