Walked around the entire island this morning. It took a whopping 30 minutes. Hot day and I finally got my first Gallo beer. It's advertised as the national beer of Guatemala. I guess like the Budweiser of America. Not that there are very many choices here. Most places charge at least Q12 for a bottle. Most places the beer prices aren't much if any more than you could buy in the store. Boy at lunch got our order confused and brought us ...

Rising early to head back east into Guatemala, we found ourselves at the bus station. Jumping on a bus that wasn´t quite a chicken bus, but definately wasnt a plush coach, we headed off to the border. After another smooth crossing, we found ourselves in flores. First impressions of Guatemala are definately great. No unsafe vibe at all, and everyone is friendly enough. Flores was a quaint little town in northwestern guatamala. It was developed as a tourist haven, but if definataly no ca...

I had breakfast near the waterfront, and my server was able to help me secure a bus out of Flores. The bus was 200Q to Guatemala City with air condition, which is rare in Guatemala. So i gets to talking to fellow travellers on the bus, and i get a clue as to why nobody was out and about the night before. Apparently, Flores is the point of debarkation to the ancient mayan ruins Tikal, which is the most impressive in Central America. Well, that was the first mistake of m...
