Back in Flores we celebrated the last day that our dad was travelling with us by having a great, hearty steak dinner. His treat of course. I couldn’t really remember the last time I had had a proper steak.
For the rest we didn’t do an awful lot. An early night was what we all needed after two…

Fri Nov 9, 2008 I could barely concentrate on work in the morning because I was so excited to leave for Guatemala. Finally, at 2ish, Tanya, Bethany and I boarded a bus to Benque. The $1.50BZ bus ride was really short. We passed the Xunantunich stop on the way and rode a taxi for $3BZ each to…

Just as when we arrived in Flores, it was wet and grey when we left, except that this time it was raining.. all over my rucksack ontop of the minibus. Leaving Flores in our shuttle bus to Lanquin was a bit of a nightmare, which may been something to do with me and Rusty...Long story. Yesterday when…

Wake up super early to catch my 4am shuttle back to Guatemala City. My recommendation for any tour to Tikal is already be in Guate City. You'll save yourself lots of time and money.
Anyway the plan is to shuttle from Antigua to Guatemala City. Take the (exactly) 45minute flight from there to Flor…

Cancun, Mexico -› Isla Mujeres, Mexico -› …
Walked around the entire island this morning. It took a whopping 30 minutes. Hot day and I finally got my first Gallo beer. It's advertised as the national beer of Guatemala. I guess like the Budweiser of America. Not that there are very many choices here. Most p…

I tried to sleep most of the way to Tikal although the minivan was packed and people were being very noisy. When we got there we milled around for ages before starting the hike so I tried to sleep again. It was almost good it was pitch black cos it meant I couldn't see how much farther there was to…

I had breakfast near the waterfront, and my server was able to help me secure a bus out of Flores. The bus was 200Q to Guatemala City with air condition, which is rare in Guatemala. So i gets to talking to fellow travellers on the bus, and i get a clue as to why nobody was out and about…

Guatemala -› Antigua, Guatemala -› …
It's a week after the last post, and I've decided to go directly--at least as directly as I can--back home to San Miguel, Mexico, 4 hours north of Mexico City. It should take me about 3 days. I'm kind of eager to get back, because frankly, I just want to relax and have the opportunity for TV, warm …

Rising early to head back east into Guatemala, we found ourselves at the bus station. Jumping on a bus that wasn´t quite a chicken bus, but definately wasnt a plush coach, we headed off to the border. After another smooth crossing, we found ourselves in flores. First impressions of Guatemala are d…
