From Reedsport, Florence is 22 miles to the north on highway 101.  Just south of Florence is Honeyman State Park, and Sea Lion Caves is to the north of town.  Sea Lion Caves has its detractors, claiming it to be a cheesy and sleazy tourist trap, but I think it is nice diversion from highway driving, and nobody is getting hurt, so lighten up! Florence, located at the confluence of the Siuslaw River and the Pacific Ocean, has one of those graceful Oregon coastal highway 101 bridges b…

Sea Lions Cave

I stopped at Sea Lions Cave because I hadn't seen sea lions in the wild before.  They like to come up and rest on the rocky shore and in the sea caves that have formed from the waves crashing on the rocks.  They are so loud!  They are all constantly barking!  It was funny when a large wave would come up and wash a few of the sea lions into the water.  They'd get mad and come scrambling back up on the rock.  At this tourist site, you can go inside the cave and get…

After much debate, we decided that Oregon was far too big for us to be able to visit Crater lake and get all the way back up to the Sea-lion caves without a drive-a-thon, and that wasn´t really what this trip is about. So, compromising we scratched Crater lake from the plans, saving it for another trip. We loaded up the love-bug and set-off for the lava river caves, thirteen miles south of Bend. Picking-up our lantern we headed into the pitch black cave for about half a mile through the…

Heading to shoot the Heceta Head Lighthouse

We got up this morning and did a little Geocaching. Right across the street from the hotel there were two caches in a pretty cool Marina. After we checked out the first cache, we strolled down the docks and took some photos of fishing boats. After the marina, we got on the road and headed north up US Highway 101. We stopped once and shot some photos of the ocean and some rocks out there that were as big as office buildings. I still have to process those photos. We continued on and finally stop…
