I admit, today was pretty uneventful. But that's really ok considering the past few days I've had in Florence.I woke up late today and barely made it to class. It was mediocre, and almost immediately afterwards we had an appointment at the Bargello, the national sculpture museum for Italy. Some of the sculptures were really interesting and pretty neat to see, but overall it was a museum of sculptures- not my thing. That and everyone was a little cranky and tired of museums and the visit wasn'…

So today will be our excursion to the Chianti region, but before we do that we want to buy a picnic at the Cenral Market and have the picnic at the Boboli gardens. First, thing first, breakfast. This hotel had our best breakfast yet, so I was very excited to chow down (on bread, fruit and...boiled eggs - Yes!). The breakfast host is named Andrea, which I find funny, because my sister that didn't make this trip is named Andrea. I insisted he take a picture with us so th…

Bongiorno from Florence! And by Florence I mean the Italy one (as much as I like Alabama). This is quite a small and beautiful city, although you will pay top dollar to stay in a hotel or shop at the expensive stores. Our hotel is a little “less nice” than some of the others we’ve stayed in, but definitely livable for a few days. The shower in the bathroom is probably the funniest. There is no tub or shower space; the showerhead overlooks a drain in the floor in the corner of th…

We spent 11 days on a tour through Italy. We started in Venice then we proceeded to Florence, Rome, Naples, Pompeii, Positano and ended in Milan. We were there at a great time too because of all the World Cup excitement.

FLORENCE, capital of the region of Tuscany, has a population of around half a million inhabitants, spreads on the banks of the Arno, between the Adriatic and the Tyrrhenian seas, almost in the middle of the Italian peninsula. It is a city which bustles with industry and craft, commerce and culture, art and science. Being on the main national railway lines, it is easily accessible from most important places both in Italy and abroad. The Chianti area, between Florence and Siena, is one of the m…

We left Pisa and got in to Florence early evening. First things first, our Hostel was AMAZING! It was this tiny place (only about 6 rooms or so) run by one young woman, Clara. The place was uberly clean and modern and bright and fabulous. There was a lounge with huge comfy couches and bookshelves and a big stero system with cool music blasting. Free internet access on Clara's laptop. BREAKFAST SERVED IN OUR ROOMS EVERY MORNING! No lie. Literally, breakfast in bed. And GOOD breakfast..…

Luckily Florence really isn't that big so the treck to and from the police station, to the consolate, to the passport photo shop and back to the consolate isn't that horrid. So in a meer six hours later- I have a new (HORRIBLE) passport picture and a temporary passport that will get me where I need to be.
Florence was wonderful though. The rape of the Sabine women will forever be one of my favorite sculptures. The living statue people in…
