Venice, Italy -› Pisa, Italy -› ...
We drove back to Florence for our last 2 days in Italy.  Stayed at nice and very safe hostel not far from old city center.  We needed at least 4 days in Florence...there's just too many museums to see.  We went to the Acadamia and saw the Davide!  I was not prepared for seeing this amazing piece of sculpture in person.  Pictures do no justice! They also have a musical instrument section - well worth the time to explore.  Walked around after this, found a cute bar…

The dome of the cathedral was amazing, but I was not prepared for the marble exterior. It practically stopped me in my tracks. There were so many gorgeous details that I was mesmezied for several minutes. This has become my all time favorite landmark. My hostel was different from most. Had to walk for 10 minutes through a camground to get to it. It held around 350 people. The high capacity made it ideal for youth tour groups, and most of the guests were 17 year old French and Spanish k…

We left the wonderful city of Rome before sunrise. Not that we didn't want to stay there any longer, but I remember our initial plan was to be back in Milan for the New Year, and we only had a day in our schedule before New Year's eve. It was our friends Ariel and a young couple Kim and Mayette who accompanied us to the station that early morning. With our Globalpass and pre-booked boarding tickets in my hand, I recall having to wait for some time at the station for the first t…

Day Before Class....
posted by:

Tomorrow is the first day of class and my house decided to take it easy for the first night since I got here.  We have been to every form of a party in this city and it has only been a few days.  There is a local Irish pub, less than a blok away from our place, that is run by a group of Japanese guys that speak Italian, kind of a trip.  Harp Super is amazing.  There are also the half bar, half clubs that dot the city like Astor.  The top part is a bar that is a pretty…

Rome to Florence

Our day started at the Firenze Musei, home to Michelangelo's David. Next a tour of the Duomo, which is huge. From there, we walked the narrow streets, lead by our tour guide to Signoria Square. Unfortunately, we did not go to the Uffizi. Maybe on my next trip.Continuing our journey, our tour director walked us along the Arno River to the Ponte Vecchio. He told us that we could buy gold jewelry there as well as in the general vicinity. He recommended a place called COI, which is actually about…

Firenze-The Place of Breast Feeding and Naps
posted by:
Apr 12, 2005
After taking the train from Venice, we arrived in Florence and sat in a park with a mother openly breast feeding her child. Meanwhile her other children came up to us to ask for water. Since I didn't have any they became interested in the camera and spent 15 minutes asking for me to take more pictures of them. I had to delete the majority so I had room for more. We found our hostel which was really just a room in a random building. It had a shower in the corner of the room which I would later…

for our last day in florence we went to see the ponte vecchia and the palazzo pitti that is close there. well the  ponte vecchia (bridge) is far more impressive from far than standing on it, it used to be the butchers bridge and they through their leftovers just in the river, nowadays all those tiny houses sell expensive jewelery! that a big difference!,on the other side of the bridge, there is the palazzo pitti, the best example of renaissance architecture, a very wide building with hug…

Ciao from Florence, Italy!!!  I have not had internet access until now...the trip was pretty amazing so far!!!  I will update more when I have more internet time, but I'll do some highlights. Cairo was a surprise for me...I didn't expect to love it as much as I did.  I rode a camel at the pyramids,  which was one of the funniest and scariest moments of the trip!  Another other funny/scary moment was in Cairo, when our tour representative said to us at the …

we were in pompei so long that we missed the train from rome to florence, and had to spend another night in rome. we ended up in a hotel, for a bit more money, but it was ok because we had a great shower and a great nights sleep - something we all needed. we are now in florence, and just came back from seeing the statue of david. we plan on doing a bit more around the city here tonight, and hopefully heading to venice tomorrow morning. the problem is venice doesnt have many trains running ou…

Well today was the first day of rain we had ...and luckly our only day. The entire trip we were lucky to have had great sunny warm weather. So I will take the one rainy day! We first met up with a local guide of Florence who walked us around Piazza Santa Croce, Piazza Del Duomo and its cathedral with the Giotto Campanile, Piazza Signoria, Palazzo Vecchio, Loggia Dei Lanzi.  She told us of the history of Florence and the many floods they have had. We then went to a lea…

Today we had classes and of course I had every single one. I was in class from 8 to 1!!! Classes are going well so far...nothing too stressful! After classes we had lunch, then Nikki, Allison, Andrew and I went into Florence to do some shopping at the San Lorenzo market. I got some shirts and a purse, everything is kind of expensive but in the market you can talk down the prices. Once I had got all the things I wanted, I decided to stay in Florence for dinner but I went alone. I found a …
