Great Little Town With a Beautiful Courthouse Feb 16, 2017
Florence is a small town of about 600 located in the Northeast corner of Wisconsin, right by the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It is the county seat of Florence County. Florence County is one of only two counties in the state with no incorporated towns in it. The Florence County Courthouse and Jail were built in 1889 by architect James E. Clancy of Antigo in the Romanesque style. The buildings have a unique look and I really like them. The jail was in use until 1903 and is open to the public in the summer. Both buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
