Floral City is a town of about 5200 (down 5% since 2000) located along U.S. Highway 41 in Citrus County in Central Florida near the Gulf of Mexico. Floral City was established in 1883 by W. H. Havron and then Senator Austin S. Mann. The town got its name from the abundance of wildflowers in the area. Floral City prospered quickly during the heyday of phosphate mining but after World War I the mining in the area declined. Floral City has a number of beautiful oak lined streets. Floral City is at the 23 mile marker of the 46 mile long Withlacoochee State Trail.

Floral City had a nice little historic district with a few buildings of historical and or architectural interest. The Floral City Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
