Once known as the auto capital of the world, Flint, Michigan is trying to rebuild its image. In the past, Flint alone employed 80,000+ factory workers. Now, in the whole U.S. combined, there are less than 80,000 factory jobs remaining; only 8,000 left in Flint. This sort of deindustrialization has had absolute catastrophic affects on the city. Flint ranks amongst the top 3 worst cities in the U.S.A. to live as well as one of the worst cities, per capita, in the world for crime. This devastating collapse has been well documented throughout and Flint had recessed into a $35+ million dollar debt. In the last ten years the city has steadily improved and has tried to change its image by way of redevelopment and has been making a slow comeback.

Flint is located in southeastern Michigan, about an hour drive northwest of Detroit. Flint is centrally located within Genesee County and is a part of the Flint / Tri-Cities region of Michigan.

The best time to visit is usually the months of May through October. The moderate climate makes for enjoyable summer and fall seasons. Winters here can vary but tend to border on brutal.

Flint has definitely started to rebound and rename itself on the comeback trail. No doubt, the devastation of the recession here will have its impact on the city for decades to come. But, the people in Flint are quite resilient and have proven themselves to be stout survivors, which may be the biggest attraction Flint has to offer... its people.
