Easy to reach and spectacular. Oct 29, 2010
Britain does not have much by way of the vast canals connecting major river routes of water transport like in Germany, perhaps because our industrial canals were early and suffered terribly in competition with the railways.

However the Leeds-Liverpool canal was one of the more long-serving ones. In spite of conecting two cities of this size, much of its course is through country areas. Bingley is now a part of Bradford Metropolitan District, having been a small mill town in the West Riding of Yorkshire.

Near to the town centre there is first a flight of three locks and then a striking flight of five. In summer a waterbus runs from Shipley to Keighley along the canal. -
