If you enjoy fishing, specially Blue Cod or Snapper fishing, there are many skippers that take organized fishing parties down the Marlborough Sounds from Hacelock. Good size launches take you right out to the open sea to fish near the Chetwoode Islands or D'Urvile Island, sometimes they stay with in the sounds where the sea is calmer and fishing is still ok but not so spectacular.

Generally you supply your own fishing rod and gear and the skipper provides your bait, but it may be possable to lend a rod for the days fishing if you enquire.

You can be let off the boat onto the shore to do your own thing, with your own picnic lunch to enjoy a day of solitude while catching your dinner! To do this you shoud go down the Sounds on the Mail boat - its the cheaper option, they drop you off in the morning and pick you up again late afternoon, along with your fish.
