Fishers Oxford Reviews
Fish lovers paradise May 14, 2011
A perfect place to eat fresh seafood. The platters are amazing, and all staff really friendly and eager to explain any of the dishes you do not understand on the menu.
Location - Located just outside the town centre, it lies about a 15 minute walk away from the Oxford colleges. Fishers also is a stones throw away from Cowley road - a student hub, and a road with lots of bars and restaurants with a lively atmosphere.
Restaurant - The decor is based on a old fishing boat, with masts and various fishing memorabilia throughout the restaurant. It's very cosy, and has a lovely atmosphere. The smell is by far the best thing though, and really works up an appetite when you are waiting for the meal to arrive.
My Recommendations - Scallops (£~8) are delicious, and the sauce accompaniment changes quite often, from sauce vierge, to more creamy leek and mustard or tomato and basil...also the calamari (£~5) is the best i've ever tried. The mussels are also delicious (£~6) in a creamy white wine sauce.
As mentioned previously, the platters are great (£22-36), either hot or cold and for one or two people serve well and an individual main course or a starter to share. I also love the tuna or swordfish steak (£~14), cooked just right with a balsamic glaze and mixed vegetables. For dessert i'd definitely suggest the Trio (including the 3 favorites: homemade creme brulee, sticky toffee pudding and banana fritters).
I'd recommend Fishers to everyone who either loves fish, or wants to try fish for the first time!
