Fisherman's Wharf Hostel San Francisco Reviews
A great hostel in a National Park setting May 08, 2010
Fisherman’s Wharf Hostel is located at Fort Mason in San Francisco. There are a lot of historical buildings at Fort Mason surrounding the hostel. The area is somewhat of a national park setting too with lots of open space for playing some outdoor sports, a paved trail out back that allowed for walking and biking, and awesome views of nearby Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz.
The hostel is just one level. The dorm rooms are larger with more beds. The smallest dorm they had was a 6-bed dorm which is not even advertised on their website. The beds were comfortable and blankets were provided as it sometimes got cool at night. Underneath each bunk bed were individual lockers where you could store backpacks and any other personal items you might have. You just had to provide your own lock. Bathrooms were located on each end of the hostel and were quite large and provided multiple shower stalls.
When I checked in, I was given meal tickets for each day I was there that I could use for breakfast at the hostel café. You could also come by the café for lunch or dinner for which you had to pay for. If you wanted to cook your own food, there’s also a kitchen located downstairs in a basement-type area. The kitchen is really spacious with lots of tables and chairs, utensils, and about 4 or 5 refrigerators. A supermarket is located nearby too; it’s maybe about a 5 to 10 minute walk.
The hostel does provide wi-fi access for laptop users. But I did find it inconvenient that it’s not available in any of the dorm rooms. You had to come out to the commons area in order to access it. There are plenty of chairs and couches in the commons area, but there are a limited number of power outlets. Sometimes I had to be on battery power when using the internet and then recharge it in my room.
I enjoyed my stay at Fisherman’s Wharf Hostel. The staff was friendly, accommodating, and answered all my questions. If you’ve stayed here before and have a comment to add, please feel free.
