Firefly Beach Cottages

Information about cheap hotels/hostels in Jamaica is usually hard to come across, and I got FireFly info from the guy in Montego Bay. Situation with places that are cheaper than $20 per person is very grim, and you really have to look hard, or haggle with the owner (that works during low season).

Negril beach is nice, sandy, long beach on west coast of Jamaica, but it is mostly famous for its hedonist hotels…

FireFly is not in the town, but on the strip where most of the hotels and resorts are. To get to town you could take taxi for $2 or walk around 3km. Complex is made of bunch of buildings/cabanas, going from the road to the beach, and setting is in very nice garden. They have super nice ladies working in the office(that is in separate cool wooden house), and there is also bar with cooked food on the beach. Cabanas are mostly on two floors, but we were in some kind of shack across the office.

Cabana was a bit crocked, which you could easily figure out if you lay in my bed. I had to place two pillows under my head to equalize the level. Beds are totally fine, queen size, so I think that more people could fit in that one. Bathrooms and showers are outside, and they are working well and they are clean.

Other amenities include lots of chairs and few hammocks, gym, and few floaters that you can rent. Our cabana was very cozy, nice, mosquito nets, fans, beautiful ivy on outside walls and two chairs in the front.

There is one rule that made me laugh a bit… It is prohibited to walk naked in compound, but thongs are ok, and beach is free to everything.

All in all, excellent place, great vibe, a bit far from the city, but that place is not city worth seeing anyway. Warmly recommended.

adequate, but poor value compared with similar accommodation on offer nearby. The cottages were peaceful enough and really close to the beach, but rather cramped when at full capacity. Best to shop around to get a good deal - there are so many similar cottages it's hard to choose!
