Guest houses Apr 16, 2011
When looking for accomodation in Cambodia, I think it is a good thing to find a guesthouse owned by local people. There are so many foreigners coming into the country and making a profit on the country's tourism. Often this will be people with money to invest, and that way they can afford to make nicer hotels than the locals can. I think the profit from the country's tourism should go to its own people, and not others. This is a poor country with a lot of poor people! So what if the guest house is a bit messy - full of the family's stuff everywhere, with kids running around? That's the charm of it! After all, meeting people and taking part in their life is a wonderful part of travelling!

Hi Jaded - I was in Siem Reap last summer but stayed a bit outside of the "city" at a great but somewhat pricey place called Villa Loti (you can read the review at this URL - I think it was about $42/night

As far as a review of the Two Dragons, there is one on a great website that I used extensively on our SE Asia trip called Travelfish ( The complete review is at the URL below

NOTE: Not my review! Pasted from Travelfish

"The American/Thai owners of Two Dragons are also the minds behind the Tales of Asia website -- one of the best Cambodia-focussed websites online -- making this not only a good place to stay, but a great place to pick up information on travelling throughout Cambodia. There is even a small upstairs terrace well suited to picking their brains over a few ice cold beers. Rooms are spotless and comfortable, though a couple of the bathrooms are a little on the pokey side. The staff here are very friendly and welcoming. Downstairs has a large and very comfortable restaurant -- well suited to escaping the heat. Two Dragons can arrange private taxi transport from Poipet to Siem Reap. Recommended."
