Finding Tickets on Line
Finding Tickets on Line Reviews
Oct 20, 2007
It is hard work finding a ticket on line. We keep a pad of paper with the airport names (Eureka = ACV San Francisco = SFO..) and the prices / dates / times we are seeking… then look , look, look. Right now (this week) We found New York to Rome is between $560 and $3000.…. I checked January 2008 prices : they are the same but switching to mid June 2008 the prices increased: starting at $913.00... Yikes. Watch for sales ….
When you plan on going will determine how much or how little you pay.. Around holidays and during the summer the prices are higher .... January and February is often off season and the cost is decreased.
As a general rule the sooner you start looking for tickets on line the better... it's good to narrow down the range of prices: (make certain you clear the cookies from your computer every hour or so... if they are not deleted the ticket prices will climb) We have found flying on Tues, Wed, Thursday are cheaper days to fly. Some time periods of the day or night is cheaper. One option is to go onto some of the sites to see if they have “notification messages” if the tickets go to the price you are seeking. Personally, my favorite site to check at the beginning of a search is Travelzoo. (I get weekly notifications from them of their top 20 deals). Don’t forget to check the actual sites of the airlines….
We fly out of a small airport. We have paid $159 and as high as $435. A huge range of prices .... we continue watching for sales to try to minimize our costs. The prices right now is $288.00 just to get to San Francisco …. That’s cheap compared to other times of the year. We always joke that we can fly from SFO to Europe cheaper than we can get from Eureka to SFO (kinda sad but… it’s true…)
We recently looked for hours for tickets to Hawaii. We looked on a number of sites. (probably 10 sites) We had our price range that we didn’t want to go over and our price we wanted to go under…. But we couldn’t coordinate it with the dates and times we wanted to fly. Surprisingly, we found if we ordered a car with the plane tickets it decreased the cost by $100 per person and the times/dates we wanted to fly were included. It really opened our eyes to trying all options. Who da thunk?
