Over spring break I was lucky enough to jet away to the beautiful islands of Fiji. We stayed at two islands while we were there - Beachcomber and Manta Ray. We first pulled up to Beachcomber by boat - a little island wiith beautiful bright blue water and white sand. It is tiny and took us a maximum of ten minutes to walk around the entire thing. The greated us by singing in Fijian and welcomed us to the island. The island basically is only home to one gigantic hostel. My bed was bed num…

The light is declining, the end of the day approaches. By now, I have seen a lot of Fiji, the sea, the mountains, the clouds, the rain and the sun.
I see this island as a big boat, where I spent most of my time out on the bridge, unable to penetrate its mysterious depths. This boat is immense, inhabited by tens of thousands persons, it is full of recesses, sceneries and shapes
In the lit up cabins, human forms move around, talk, live. There is only simplicity…

We stayed for 4 days is a beautiful resort; The Pearl at Pacific Harbour. The only problem was that the owner didn't like Fijians, only the fijian dollar! So everything in the resort was more 'australian' than fijian. When I go to another country, i like to experience the culture; from food to music. But not even the music was not allowed inside the resort. Only english songs. There was 1 night when a Fijian band played, the boss was there so they had to play english songs. I reque…

I reckon if I took a survey of most Americans, they would describe Fiji as a place of beautiful beaches, clear water, and perfect weather. And it may be that... at the super-duper, gated, and completely Americanized resort hotels, which are undoubtedly secluded on some remote stretch of beach on the islands of this nation. But the part that we saw was not the pictures in the brochure. We landed in one of the two main towns, Nadi. (Suva, the capital, is the other.) The a…

Bula everyone!
Bula means hello in Fijian, and when you come to Fiji you get used to saying it around 50 times a day to everyone you meet! Seriously! Everyone is very friendly and they all walk around in a sarong (even the men) with a flower tucked behind there ear (even the men!). Its really great to be somewhere warm again after New Zealand!
We decided we wanted to plonk ourselves on a beach for the entire time we were here (well what else is there to do in Fiji??) so we chose a…

This trip manifests a cursory approach to seeing and doing all those crazy and out-of-the-way things that any child dreams up. I hope your inner child enjoys my spontaneous, and perhaps reckless, approach to global circumnavigation.
