FIJI 2006: Nadi Travel Photos
posted by:
Sep 18, 2006 - Sep 25, 2006
Last year I went backpacking in New Zealand and thought:So close to Fiji and what a waste not to fly to this beautiful island! So we spontaneously booked a flight to Nadi and didn't waste our time to stay on the main island but to visit the Yasava islands! We visited Tavewa, one of the small northernmost islands.Next stop was Kuata, my favourite one! And the last one was South Sea island, the smallest island I've ever seen.

Upon arriving at Nadi Airport, my travel buddy, Mark and I decided to hop a seaplane to the Yasawa Group of Islands. {I had read about them in the Loney Planet Guide while inflight.} My friend and I love adventure and rarely make any serious plans...I love to see what a place offers and then decide when I get to a destination. It's good to have ideas of what you want to do and what you want to see....but I thrive on flexibility. Taking a different road, so to speak. In the ...

April 19I spent the next night back on the mainland at Nadi Bay Hotel. This was nothing too exciting. My friends were preparing to leave and I was staying an extra few nights. We had dinner at the restaurant here and met lots of new people. I hooked up with some people to travel with to the Coral Coast. April 20Me friend and I made our way to the Coral Coast with a Fijian man and 5 of his friends in an old mini van. We ended at the Beachhouse which was a great little backpackers place...

First stop Fiji
posted by:

The short trip to the resort gave us the first taste of the big island. It was not very touristy as you would expect from a town of fairly poor inhabitants. The route from the airport had a third-world feel. It is a somewhat unkempt town, but with a friendly no-worries?attitude. The island is heavily influenced by aussies, which makes sense considering its a short 4 hour flight for them. As for the natives, it is made up of indigenous Fijians and East Indians. The latter of mostly run the bus...

After leaving the US out of LA, my first destination was Fiji. I was happy to get out of LA and have some Fiji-time to myself but I was also a little apprehensive and nervous due to this being my first time traveling abroad. After a long (13 hour) flight, we landed in Nadi, Fiji. We got off the plane and were greeted by singing Fijians...kind of gimicky but welcoming none the less. We continued on into the airport, exchanged some money, and were approached by someone who told us they will hel...

Got on the boat back to the main land and headed back to a different hostel with dave and stef. On getting there I bumped in to a group of lads I had met in the cook islands and they were with 2 guys I had met in LA. On getting there, I was watching gladiators on youtube having had a long talk about john fashanu and a girl turned round to me to ask me about gladiators. I thought I recognised this girl and it turned out to be Reggina from Byker Grove. It rained the next two days pretty much ...

Yasawa Islands
posted by:

We spent about two weeks travelling through the Yasawa Islands in Oct 07. The weather was perfect and the locations awesome. Each island had its own character and style and we never got tired of the views. We met so many friendly people, Fijian and international backpackers. The snorkelling was fantastic especially at Manta Ray Island. The photos show all. The last week was spent travelling around Viti Levu for the second time. We visited the pastor in Sigatoka who married us 2 years previo...

Got to get out of here today and also got to sort getting to the islands, the travel desk is really not that informative, but took a guess and booked the Awesome Adventure Bula Pass, which basically lets me hop between islands for 2 weeks.  Booked my first 2 nights on an Island called Mantaray Island, will work out the rest once there.  Got the bus into Nadi town centre with Louise, not very nice and really nothing to see, so headed back to hotel for an afternoon by the pool, dinner...

Day 2 In Fiji   So I woke up at about 4:00 in the morning (slowly getting used to the time zone) and watched the sunrise. Very nice. Then Melissa and I went to pick up Neno to go… skydiving! Originally it was supposed to be Melissa and I go up , and then Neno, but due to different complications, I had to go up with Neno. Fun part here – Neno is brazilian and has nice brown skin. HE jumped first. So I got to see what Neno would look like white. Then Rob (my tandem jumpmaster) wiggl...

Our Adventurous Fijian Holiday. Our good friend Jonathan, invited us to Fiji to stay with his family and in his village, which is in a very remote part of the interior of Fiji, where white tourists just do not go. We knew this was going to be an adventure, but didn’t know just how much of an adventure! Just getting there was an adventure! Before we left New Zealand, Erle had an accident and tore the calf muscle very badly, so three weeks before we were to leave, Erle was on crutches going...
