A serious Italian restaurant that did not prove itself Jan 31, 2016
S38°27.165' E145°14.349' on the main tourist strip of Cowes; Fig & Olive offered serious Mediterranean dining in December 2015. The interior was modern with wooden panels. An old fashion pizza oven stood in the back of the restaurant. We did not order a thin pizza Italian style, but went for the wood-fired Tasmanian salmon with roasted chat potatoes, artichokes, olives, baby spinach and lemon rosemary dressing for AUS$32. It was a well-prepared Pacific salmon dish with a nice combination of several flavours. Delicious.

The seafood linguini pasta with king prawns, mussels, clams, calamari, scallops, chilli, garlic & white wine for AUS$30 had too much garlic for our taste, overshadowing the other fine flavours in this dish completely. A pity for all the effort that went into this dish.

Next time we do not order the 2015 T'Gallant Cape Schank Pinot Grigio for AUS$8 per glass. The initial taste was good, but it lasted just a few seconds. A very short enjoyment for a Pinot Grigio.

Beside food and service, for a serious restaurant the interior is important too. We experienced problems with the acoustics in the restaurant. Sounds bounced off hard surfaces, forcing guests to increase their volume to be heard. The music in the background was hopeless over classed.

Service of the staff was personal and good. The food was well prepared. The total dining experience could have much been better.
