Festival of the Chariots Venice Beach Reviews
Venice beach festival with free food Mar 10, 2011
Ratha Yatra (meaning Festival of the Chariots) originated 5,000 years ago in India, in a city called Jagannatha Puri.
It was introduced to the west in 1967 in San Francisco by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.
Every year, this great festival is celebrated in all the major cities around the world (in july or august).
The procession, (accompanied by 3 huge carts with the deities of Lord Jagannath, Lord Baladev and Lady Subhadra), marches from the Hare Krishna Temple in Santa Monica to Venice beach, where the celebration continues for the rest of the day.
There are 3 stages for live performances, exhibits on yoga and meditation, reincarnation, spirituality, vegetarianism and animal rights, children’s games and gift booths set up.
If you like Indian culture, dance performances, live music, drumming, kirtan, drama, dancing and eating, you will love this festival.
