Where the inaugural inauguration took place Dec 29, 2016
Located in Lower Manhattan, along Wall Street, Federal Hall National Memorial is across from the New York Stock Exchange. And it is the building with the columns, with the statue of George Washington in front of it. This was where a very important moment in American history took place, which was the inauguration of George Washington, thus becoming the very first President of the US, on April 30, 1789.

The building site does have a history of its own, starting out as a City Hall building in the early 18th century. Then becoming Federal Hall, when New York was the capital of the nation. Then back to City Hall, after the capital moved to Philadelphia in 1790, until 1812, when it was demolished. In its place, was a Custom House and Treasury building until 1920, when it would later become a museum.

It can be seen on a guided tour, or you can pick up a booklet to tour the place itself. A small museum, consisting of different rooms. There are 2 rooms that are about the inauguration, and 1 room that tell the history of the building site. And another that looks more like a visitor center, where you can pick up more information on visiting New York. Plus displays on a little history of New York. And an actual vault downstairs.

The architecture of the building is really nice to look, both the outside and the inside, in the main area. The museum part can be seen really quickly, as there are not really much to see. And the Bible that Washington put his hand on, when being sworn in as President, was not on display when I was there, which was disappointing.

For this place alone, it is not worth going out of your way to see it. But since admission is free, and if you are already in this part of Lower Manhattan (the financial district), I would say, include a visit to this place as well. Mainly for its significance in American history. As it should not take up much time, or cost you any money to enter, this place is really not a waste to check out.

I remember walking by this building many years ago not knowing what it was. Will put it on my list next time I'm in New York.
