Fat Tire Bike Tours Travel Reviews

In shape or out of shape, it's better to be on your butt for 4 hours than on your feet. Jul 09, 2008
The wonderful thing about Berlin is that there is so much to see in so many different areas of the city. The history of the city stretches for hundreds of years and so many different things have occurred in that time that has shaped Berlin into what it is today. Fat Tire Bike Tours is a great way to see all of the high points in one afternoon. The tour normally takes about four and a half hours. Their base of operations is at the foot of the Berlin TV Tower, but the tour goes all the way out to the middle of the Tiergarten.
I would love to spoil all the sights, but that's the joy of going. The guides they have do an excellent job of illustrating the history of each stop and are quite entertaining. It's not a typical type of tour with facts thrown at you, the guides have taken the time to spice up their presentation with humor and wit.
I really recommend this tour to anyone visiting Berlin, whether you're there for a day or a week, this is the best way to figure out what you want to see more on the rest of your visit. All though it is a little on the expensive side, you can sacrifice and eat a Döner for dinner (about € 2,00).

The cost of the tour may put budget backpackers off, but the tour is definitely a great way to see lots of the attractions in one go, especially if you have a short time. Alternatively, hire the bikes and make your own tour. Our guide was Jeff and he was a source of great and interesting knowledge. The bikes for the tour are good quality beach style bikes, and very comfy. There are virtually no hills in Berlin, so most people will be fit enough to enjoy the tour.
The tour covers the Berlin wall, Hitler's bunker, multiple memorials, and much more- plus there is a visit to a beer garden that is rather jolly, but not as jolly as the cycling after a beer! Afterwards, it is easy enough to pop back to the sites you want to see more off on Berlin's transport network, or for some, by walking.
The tours leave from the bottom of the TV tower in Alexanderplatz. Night and boat tours are also available.

Having never been to Berlin but wanting to see the 'major sites' my friend and I choose Fat Tire Bike Tours. Very Cheap for the experience and knowledge of the guides. Being that Berlin is very flat, and that there is so much to see, the trip is very easy for young and old. The tour takes most of the day so bring sun-block and a little cash (Euro) as the mid-day break is at a beer garden. Wouldnt be Germany without that kind of a stop. The tour guides are all extremely knowledgable and stay at each site long enough to give the important information and for pictures, but dont stay long enough for you to get bored. The trip takes you from one end of the city to the next. One of the best tours I have been on. For a small additional cost, you can participate in the Pub Crawl later in the evening. This tour takes you through several different style pubs where you can sample all kinds of drinks. Cost of the Pub Crawl gets you entrance to each club / pub, as well as a shot before you go into each location. Definatly a great way to end your evening.

Fat Tire tours was recommended to me by a friend and he was raving on about it. So the decision was made to gor a tour with them. It turned out to be a great choice. Our group was small enough, around 25 people. Our tourguide was from Florida and he was excellent. He was doing the tours for the 2nd year now after coming from Paris at Tire tours.

It's a great way to see the city as Berlin is perfect for cycling. It's very flat and there are cycle paths all over the city. If there are no cycle paths you will notice that the roads are very wide and not much traffic. You don't just cycle past all the sights, you have lots of photo opportunities and time to wander around a bit. After a couple of hours the group stops at a german beergarden for some lunch and obviously beer :) The beergarden is situated in the Tiergarten Park and it was reasonably priced. The food was nice and a beer went down a treat after the cycling :) Don't get the wrong impression though. The cycling is not strenuous at all. The longest stretch we cycled was about 10 minutes. Other than that you had a lot of breaks and the bikes are so comfortable, you don't mind sitting on them.

Fat Tire has 3 different tours: City Tour, 3rd Reich Tour and Berlin Wall Tour. If you want to see a lot of sights and don't have much time to spend in Berlin, the City Tour is perfect for you. All the tour are priced Euro 20 and 17 for students. Their office is located at Alexanderplatz, just beneath the TV tower. They also have an internet cafe and laundry service!!

I highly recommend Fat Tire Tours because it's a fun way to get around the city and cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time.

CrazyLisa says: This museum tempted us as we went to Berlin without much in the way of knowledge about Berlin as a city. We found it in one of those flyers in the front of a hotel. It was a little hard to find because their map was confusing but we finally found it and walked inside. There is this big plane win...
