Farallon Restaurant in San Francisco Travel Reviews

Feb 17, 2008
Today we went to Farallon which is one of the best restaurant in San Francisco and of course my personal favourite. As soon as you walked in the restaurant, you'll notice the chandeliers here have the shape of the jelly fish, very interesting and the entire restaurant were decorated with a under ocean theme, appropriated I guess since they mostly serve seafood on the menu here.

My food was amazingly wonderful and I can't not tell you how talented Mark Franz is. You had read about him on Bon Appetit, Gourmet, et ect.. and you have heard people telling you how you can't can't not eat his food while you are in San Francisco but really, you only realize how truly those rumors are (for once) when you taste his food. The sweet corn and mushroom bisque with crab and chantilly was outstanding though it was only my appetizer so I didn't finish the entire thing, what a waste. I had some half-shelf oysters which was very fresh and paired surprisingly good with my Amaretto Sour. Cornmeal crusted soft shell crabs is my entry and it was drizzled with Chinese spicy black bean sauce, served with roasted zucchini, lemon cucumbers - a perfect healthy dish and very tasty a bid a bit salty for my taste but still, I love how crunchy the crabs were, the shredded cucumber went great with the sauce and the zucchini just balance everything out. My friend shared me a bit of his filet mignon too and it were oh so tender. I looked over the table trying to trade some scallops but my "brother" had finish them all. I just full enough though I must admit I still saved some rooms for dessert. We has the warm flourless chocolate el rey cake and a happy ending confection which I had to say finish out meal perfectly though I think they can do better with the chocolate cake. I love the confection dessert so I took some pictures of it in case I have to dream about some dessert in my days of dieting after this vacation.

JillianJ says: One evening, my friend and I were craving something sweet. I recalled her talking about a specific cupcake bakery located in Ghiradelli Square so I brought it up. Didn't take much convincing to get her to come with me to the Square. She had told me that the cupcakes were a bit pricey ($3 each) but d...
rtwohey says: The sweetest, richest dessert place I know in San Francisco, Sweet Inspiration is always a great spot to gorge out on their impossibly huge slices of cake. Be warned though, sharing a slice is a really good idea, otherwise you wind up like me, with half-eaten slices of cake lingering around the ref...
