Walking the Dog on the Back Strand, Falcarragh

As often as possible I try and get some walking time on the 'back strand' - that's the local beach just outside the town of Falcarragh in north west Donegal - along with 'Boo' my dog. Apart from the very middle of summer on a hot day, a large 'crowd' might consist of 5 or 6 people spread over the two miles of sand. The town of Falcarragh has as many faces as it has names! On some maps it shows up as 'Crossroads' deriving from its Irish language name Na Croisbhealaí but older maps refer to it as Robinson's Town, but its now listed as An Fál Carrach in Gaelic meaning the long or rough hedge. A town of around 1,500 souls it lies between the barren beauty of the Derryveagh mountains and the north atlantic ocean.
