Fairmont Hotel Chicago

This was a very nice hotel. Although expensive it was priced much better than the other hotels in this area. There was a great view of the area overlooking a large park and you could also see lake michigan. All the staff was very helpful and freindly. They also have smoking rooms available, wich i appreciated with the freezing weather. The room was large with a great bathroom and huge comfy beds.

A little odd though for such a nice place, a big hole in the ceiling outside our room with a bunch of drywall on the floor witch wasnt cleaned up the whole 2 days we were there.

With the rooms being more affordable they will definatly get you in the bars and shops. I would dine somewhere else in town. After the tip i spent close to $70.00 on 4 drinks(mohitos that didnt even have real mint leaves). But for the staff and the price of the room ill stay here again.

I stayed two nights at the Fairmont last weekend and had a great time. I was traveling for a business meeting on monday and just happened to have my birthday on the sunday before. The hotel was close to the water but equially distant from state street shopping and michigan ave. It was a little far to walk for most of the resturants on the west side.

They have an awesome wine bar right in the middle of the lobby that I was drooling over and counting the minutes before i could hop on a bar stool! And the wines were fantastic... a little too fantastic, if you know what i mean.

They have a bath sommelier that i wish i could have found time to enjoy. For only $60, you can order one of (it think) five different baths with oils, candles, sparkling water.. etc.. next time I'm going to have to fit that in!

Finally, I had ordered room service the night before my birthday and the woman who took my order had asked me if i was of age to order/drink beer (since i had ordered two to my room). I causually mentioned, not only was i over 21, but i was about to turn 31 in a few hours.

Sunday afternoon as im getting ready for dinner, a knock on my door brings a lucious chocolate cupckae, chocolate covered strawberry and two chocolate dots, that had 'happy birthday' scribbled in chocolate on the plate. It was from the woman who took my room service order the night before.

Maybe this stuff happens all the time, but when your traveling alone for business, on your birthday, it just made my day.

Great hotel!
