If you're looking to spend 'a special evening' or you simply want to experience a historical hotel where ball room dances and horse & buggy was provided as a means of taxi (long ago), right along where the train passed through Ottawa, well come and stay here!
It may cost 'a pretty penny' but for the experience of staying in a hotel where all dignitaries have stayed (stay one night) and the other nights in an average priced hotel. I would at least recommend you book one night and know you are staying in the hotel where kings and queens, presidents and prime ministers presently stay and have stayed! Rich in history, you'll enjoy the experience, at the same time be able to walk out and glance at the Rideau Canal, longest man-made river ... (mind you there now could be other man-made rivers that are presently longer) Behind the Château Laurier is the Ottawa River ... and along side of it resides Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notre-Dame_Cathedral_%28Ottawa%29) A wonderful place to stay ... I was fortunate to have the opportunity to stay here when I was attending Carleton University at the young age of 20 ... To this day, in my hometown (Ottawa), when I happen to walk by the Château Laurier, I remember the opportunity I had to stay there with fellow classmates for a two night/three day stay there!!!
