Fairfax Overview

Fairfax, Virginia, is a small city in Northern Virginia. Originally known as Fairfax Court House, it is home to the burgeoning Fairfax County Court House complex. Yet, it is not part of surrounding Fairfax County. (All incorporated cities in Virginia are indenpendent, they are not under any county jurisdiction.) Fairfax is also home to to George Mason University, one of the largest Virginia public universities.
