F. Scott & Zelda Fitzgerald Burial Place Jul 17, 2013
I was in the Rockville area and decided to find this place based on Andy99's review. I was surprised to find pens, flowers, and a tattered paperback placed on the grave by Fitzgerald's fans, so I figured I would add a photo of it. Maybe the recent Great Gatsby film has stirred up interest.

The original St. Mary's Church is a beautiful old building built in the early 1800s next to the cemetery. You can go inside, but there were several people present for Eucharistic Adoration (it's a Catholic thing) so I didn't take any interior pictures. Right next to it is the current church, possibly the ugliest church I have ever seen. It looks like a giant UFO landed in the parking lot, obviously something put up in the 1960s or 70s. An interesting little side trip if you're in Rockville (thanks for bringing it to our attention, Andy!).

Gravesite of Author F. Scott Fitzgerald Jun 11, 2008
One of the more interesting discoveries in Rockville, Maryland is to find that the American author F. Scott Fitzgerald and his wife, Zelda Sayre, are buried here. F. Scott Fitzgerald is most famous for his novel The Great Gatsby describing the 1920s Jazz Age lifestyle. Both were writers and the Fitzgeralds were celebrities in the 1920s-1930s. They never lived in Rockville, though his family came from the area.

F. Scott Fitgerald died in Los Angeles in 1940 and Zelda in North Carolina in 1948. They were intially buried in Rockville Cemetery. The Women's Club of Rockville arranged the reinterment at St. Mary's Cemetery in 1975. More information is at the Perless Rockville website.

St. Mary's Cemetery and the gravesite are located just a few blocks from downtown Rockville and are fairly easy to find. You might want to visit if you have enjoyed Fitzgerald's writings, are a fan of literature, or are interested in seeing the final resting place of a famous author.

I never would have thought to find F. Scott & Zelda in Rockville, MD. I knew he had died in CA and always assumed he was buried there. Having an 'I love TravBuddy' moment to learn about this! Good review and it deserves more attention...
