We debated between the FCC and Hotel de la Paix and definitely made the right choice. We chose a pool side room which was well worth the extra, especially during the hot season just to be able to step out of the room a jump straight into the pool. The pool itself was lovely and not at all crowded when we were there (though might be small in peak season if all the hotel occupants chose to use it at the same time). TIP: try to specify a pool room far away from the reception otherwise you have guests walking past yr room all day - best/most private rooms were Tumeric & Tamarind right at the very end, and very close to the spa!. Our 6 good reasons to choose the FCC at Siem Reap:
1. Spa - best facial I've ever had (and good value during the day with 30% discount)
2. Breakfast - large, very tasty, and good choice - and served between 4.30am to 10.30am which gives you the flexibility to eat before or after the dawn run to Angkor. There's also tea making facility in the room if you can't face a huge breakfast at 4.30am, with a cafetiere & real ground coffee!! A major plus for Nescafe-loathers like me.
3. Location - by the river, walking distance to Abacus restaurant (great French food) and only $1 moto ride to Pub Street if you have to go!
4. Bar - great cocktails & lovely garden to sit out esp during half price happy hour 5-7pm.
5. Very friendly staff/rapid service - their airport pick up service was 5 star - well worth the $10 charge.
6. Small size - just right size - small enough to give personalised service and too small to attract the Angkor coach-tours.
The only negative about the FCC is the high cost of the internet -$3 for 30 mins - exhorbitant but there is a good internet cafe across the river charging only $0.50 for an hour. There is however free WiFi for those with laptops, or you can rent a laptop, tho' again expensive.

RE VISA - definitely recommend getting the evisa. Well worth the extra $5 not to queue for at least 1 hour at visa on arrival at Siem Reap airport. Took only 2 days to process.
