Extraordinary Desserts San Diego Reviews
Sep 24, 2007
The desserts should have gotten four stars but part of the service was so bad that I had to give the entire experience 2 stars. First of all, this place was way too crowded and the line was insanely long. While I'm fine with standing in line for phenomenal food - this place simply just wasn't worth the wait. Also, if they knew the line was so long, they really should make the ordering process easier - for example, you are in line forever, there are no menus or pictures of the desserts so you literally have to make up your mind in a few seconds once you're at the register. (To be fair the register guy was pretty nice, but that doesn't really help you decide what you want when you can't see the desserts until you're up at the register.) Anyways, our group ordered a medley of desserts and ice cream - two of us ordered the same thing - bowls of chocolate and caramel ice cream. Then we had to find a table and wait for the desserts to be brought to us - one by one. After a while, an incredibly cranky server showed up and announced they were out of caramel ice cream, but didn't offer to suggest any other flavors as if it were our obligation to have memorized the entire ice cream list. he stook there grumpily waiting for us to pull out ice cream flavors out of thin air - still offering no assistance - so I decided to change my caramel to vanilla - with that he left in a huff, ignoring the fact that my friend who also ordered a bowl of ice cream hadn't yet changed her flavors. When we got him to come back he was even more irate, so she hurriedly changed her order, which of course he got wrong at the end. Overall, just left a bad taste in our mouths. Not sure dessert should come hand in hand with attitude. I can't really recommend this place, which is unfortunate because the desserts were pretty good.
Summary of our desserts:
2 bowls of ice cream "tainted" with bad service and attitude - ok, but not phenomenal
Napoleon - quite flaky and rich, with big plump berries
strawberry dream cake - rather disappointing actually, not so dreamy... i much prefer susina bakery or sweet lady jane in LA
