Tbilisi's metro was established in 1966 as the fourth metro system in the former Soviet Union. Nowadays it consists of two lines with a total length of 27 km, which intersect at "Station Square I" in the city centre.

It can be used with a so called "metromoney" card, which can be purchased at any metro station for a deposit of 2 GEL. The card can store credit for the use of the metro and local buses.

In 2015 the fare was 0,50 GEL (50 Tetri) for rides of up to 90 Minutes. This means that you can re-enter the metro or any city bus within 90 minutes after you have touched in with your metromoney card to the automatic control system.
