Exeter Vacation Guide
Exeter is a city in the southwest of the Untited Kingdom, on the south-coast which has about 120.000 inhabitants. Exeter is located on the river 'Exe' and has been founded by the Romans. The Celts, Vikings and local lords conquered the city in the middle ages. During the second world war, Exeter was bombarded 18 times. So the city has suffered many horrors, but the historic cathedral still stands.
A nice thing to know and to see is 'Parliament Street'. This is the world's narrowest street (2 people cannot pass each other)!
Exeter's visiting card is the University of Exeter.
By two railways, Exeter St Davids & Exeter Central. Exeter is connected with London, and it has an airport (Exeter International Airport) which was voted in Britain's top 10, where 'Flybe', a low fare company, has its base.
The local bus-company is 'Stagecoach Devon'. The best place to pick a bus, is High Street, because most of the buses drive through this street. You can go by bus to the beautiful St. Peter. For long distances with the bus, offers National Express good connections to Heathrow and London.
In Exeter lived and raised old comedian Tommy Cooper. Coldplay singer Chris Martin was born in Exeter. On the university of Exeter, J.K. Rowling graduated. She is the writer of the Harry Potter books.
The local football club is Exeter City F.C. The headquarters of this club, St James's Park is one of the oldest stadiums in England and has places for 8830 people.
