The town of Exeter, with a population of around 10,000 is situated at the base of the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. Situated in the middle of California’s agricultural heartland the great San Joaquin valley, one of the world’s most fertile valleys, Exeter is known for the sweetest oranges in the world. Exeter is also known for its abundant supply of citrus, deciduous fruits, nuts and table grapes. National recognition was given to Exeter in 2000 as “One of America’s Prettiest Painted Places”. More than twenty huge professional murals have been painted on exterior walls throughout the downtown area.

Exeter is a wonderful little community farther east near the foothills. I have done a blog on the beautiful murals that they have dotted around there downtown area. Today though we are more interested in seeing nature. So we skirt the east side of town and continue on.

“Exeter Road Race Circa 1916” (2006)
Artist: Colleen Mitchell-Veyna, Visalia, CA
Location: north wall of TF Tire, 250 South “F” Street
This mural depicts preparation for a road race through Downtown Exeter in the early 1900’s. Here at the corner of Pine Street and “E” Street local celebrities Wes Clover and Steve Ooley, and members of the artist’s family are represented.
