Ewa Beach Vacation Guide

Ewa Beach (pronounced ev'a) is located on the island of Oahu west of Honolulu and Pearl Harbor. It is on the south shore of Oahu and is not known for it's surfing due to it's shoreline shallow water. There is an outer reef several hundred yards offshore that breaks the waves as they roll in from the open Pacific. The waters between the outer reef and the shore are shallow to medium depth and make for some good fishing of smaller fish and lobster.

In recent years, Ewa Beach has changed from a small community supporting pineapple and sugar cane production to a large bedroom community of commuters who work in Honolulu and the surrounding areas. The land is flat and is well suited to agriculture or housing developments.

The term "Ewa" means "Stray" in Hawaiian and comes from Hawaiian myths. Ewa is known locally as a term of direction, west, and it is common to say that a business is located on the ewa side of another business or landmark.
