Beautiful rural Baroque church Feb 02, 2017
Probably the most beautiful Baroque church in the area is the small church in Schellerhau. It is an excellent example for the rural Saxon Baroque style as it is to find in other small villages all over Saxony (very similar is Reinhardtsdorf near Bad Schandau).

Originally built in Renaissance style 1591 - 93 it was redesigned in early Baroque style end of the 17th century. Very impressive and beautiful are the paintings on the ceiling and the balconies depicting scenes from the Old and New Testament.

The magnificent altar is the other highlight in the church - with a painting depicting the Last Supper and another one depicting the crucifixion, works by Christian Männigen from 1681.

Usually open during the day.
