London, England, UK

My final day in the UK.  I was pretty sore from the long hike yesterday in Bristol, but that didn't keep me from walking miles & miles today too. Main points:  1) Abbey Road Studios.  The graffiti on the wall & gates was actually quite interesting.  It's amazing how one group could touch such a broad/global demographic, actually it was quite inspiring.  Paul McCartney had just turned 64 a week earlier, so naturally there were plenty of variations of "W...

London notes
posted by:
Aug 30, 2006 - Feb 28, 2007
So the festivus of New Year's in London was pretty much a night of us being completely unorganized and trolling the city looking for food.  Not much different from any other night, you might be thinking, but you would be wrong.  Because it was loads of fun, we ate at this restaurant called The Rock Garden (that still cracks me up two days later), there was lots of food and champagne, and then we left with 15 minutes to get to the fireworks.  Which we of course did not manage to...

Rome, Italy -› Mathura, India -› ...
I got a message recently from Adrian (hancock826) asking me about a picture she had taken in Italy.  She had a great panoramic shot of the Colosseum and wanted my advice on how to get rid of a couple of white vans that rather detracted from the photo.  She is quite familiar with photoshopping skills herself, so it was just a matter of finding out what I would do to rid the area of those pesky vans.  I told her to send me the original and I’d see what I could do.  My firs...

The pre-pre-meet-up pre-meet-up
posted by:
Aug 01, 2008 - Aug 04, 2008
For most people, one of the most logistically challenging aspect of any meet-up is perhaps the most important...How do I get there? Due to the strict border controls and test requirements for crossing the frontier between the Dutch-speaking provinces of the Netherlands and the Frisian-speaking provice to the north, I had volunteered to offer my translation services to try to smuggle a couple English, Spanish and perhaps Danish speaking counterparts up to Die Haadstêd...Leeuwarden.  Thi...

The city of two keys, a dead painter and Annie celebrating her birthday!?
posted by:
Aug 30, 2008
The keys you find in the city's weapon are all over the city. It seems it dates back to 1293. The dead painter I am reffering to wasn't even born then, that happened in 1606. More then 400 years later people still visiting Leiden to find the birthhouse of Rembrandt. It's not there anymore but a little plaquette marks the place where it was. But the tradition of Annie celebrating her birthday at the bar with the same name ('Annie's Birthday' or 'Annie's verjaardag' in Dutch) &nb...

Kharkiv - The First Capital of Ukrine - Introduction

Kharkiv, Ukraine -› -› ...
The formation of the square was initiated in the late 1960s concurrently with the construction of the Kursk-Kharkiv-Azov railroad. Now, with the majestic buildings, fountains, flower-beds gladdening our eyes, we can hardly believe that once there was a permanently wet swamp (the so-called Archbishop Levada) there. It was here that the architect A. Ton built one of the first Kharkiv railway stations in 1869. However, in the course of time there emerged a necessity of recon...

Honestly I really had no clue of what to expect from these meetups. I had decided in the last minute to fly to Amsterdam and meet some of my travbuddies, the people that I have been chatting with for awhile.  Being this was my first meetup I was excited to finally the people behind the photos, the blogs and the conversations. My trip got off to a rocky start when my flight got delayed (This was a running theme of this meetup) I finally found the Goodies bar that a bunch o...

Friday 18 April For me it was the first time in 1 year I travelled with the ICE train to Germany and put a footstep on the German floor. Some travbuddies know the story about my 2 wonderful years relationship with my ex-girlfriend Joyce. So I travelled a lot to Frankfurt am Main. In the beginning it was hard for me to go Germany again, coz of the memories. But that day, it didn't matter at all, because I had a great company with Alex, Willem, Wendy, Rowena, Johan and Melis...

I woke up before Danny and Mike and decided to go down to the kitchen to check out the free breakfast that they offer. It was just toast and jam and then tea or coffee. So nothing too exciting but it’s included in the price so why not. I didn’t see the coffee at first and made a tea which I then drank really really fast so I could make a copy. This American guy sat down beside me who was really nice and REALLY American. He made me laugh a lot. But it was nice to chat with him and then Mik...

I was born in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. When I was a few weeks old I was adopted by a family from the Netherlands. Since then I've lived here in this small country in Europe wich is a great place to live! When you're planning a trip to Europe make sure you don't skip my country! Especially our capital Amsterdam should not be missed! Basic Info The Netherlands got it's name because of the location below sea-level! The Netherlands is a very flat and small country. The Dutch are k...

Arriving in Poland

Apart from few churches, we have seen everything in Krakow that we wanted to see. And yet, we got a full day to spend here. That is because we first thought of going to Chestochowa, but finally didn't do so. Luckily, the weather is on our side today, so we can just stroll around a bit and enjoy our last day here.We start with a walk past the three churches we still wanted to see: the Dominican church, the Saint Franciscan basilica and the Saint Peter and Paul church. Looking back to it now, t...

At least.. the spring has come and the winter is gone!!! (as for winter, it could be cancelled for me).I got a message from Beata - my katrabaho (LOL, =my workmate), who wanted to go biking, cuz the weather was 'splendide'! But since she lives 20km from my town we had to make an appointment somwhere in the middle of the way. And we did. Well it was not exactly in the middle between our houses, but ok, i can go a bit farther;). The place to meet was in Pomorsko at the ferry. After some 40minut...
