Spring in The Netherlands
posted by:
Mar 03, 2008
At the end of last summer (2007), I bought a digital camera. Since then, I published an autumn blog and a winter blog. Fortunately, time keeps moving forward and winter changes into spring. In fact, the meteorological spring started March 1. Therefore, this blog is a celebration to spring.   Spring is a time of hope, promise and expectation. A time of rebirth, calf-love and youth. The flowers and the trees show signs of things to come: the careful forming of buds, the first ...

REALLY COOL! I went to Leicester Square to watch the match, the place was packed with Spaniards! Maybe 5 German supporters in the entire 2 story bar :) ...

Hurtigruten or Hurtigruta (English: Coastal Express) is a Norwegian passenger and freight line with daily sailings along Norway's spectacular western and northern coast. Ships sail almost the entire length of the country, completing the roundtrip journey in 11 days. The trip has been described as the "World's Most Beautiful Sea Voyage." Highlights include the Hanseatic League city of Bergen, the Geiranger fjord (summer only), and the Lofoten Islands.   Hurtigruten traces its ...

Jetlag? What jetlag? The day after I came back from the ridiculously delayed flight from Bangkok I flew a thousand miles again back to Hamburg. Amazingly, I slept all the way from Manila to Dubai, all 8 hours! Amazing not just because I am getting better with sleeping on planes, long flights or not, but I can also sleep despite some stinky feet from the person sitting beside me! For 8 hours!! My neck hurt though from having slept only on one side. Hey, I might sound like a bad person but I'm ...

London Heathrow Terminal 5
posted by:
Aug 16, 2008 - Sep 13, 2008
Terminal 5 at London Heathrow airport was the newest terminal which went into service this year. There were some horror stories about big luggage fiascos, where so much luggage were piled up they had to bulk ship them to Milan Itlay to sort them! And what's the chance of getting your luggage back? So we were apprehensive about having to go through Terminal 5. But at least our flight in was on time. When we got off the airplane, we followed the signs to connecting flights (but no displays with...

Travelling across the Atlantic to London

So today was my last day in London....I am finally starting to get used to the time change!  Hurrah! I have learned lots of new terminology here in London....London is such a fun city. It is very diverse.  It seems that almost everything goes and everyone is up to date on the latest fashion trends.  Brice can't get over the newest one (people wear black spandex under skirt and shorts).  He hates it.  Everywhere we go, he makes a comment on it.  It's kinda fun. ...

getting ready to go

so I'm back in the UK now, doing the reflective thing.  I've lost, over the months, one scarf, one pair of leather gloves, a hat, and my dignity, at least twice.  But I've gained several good friends, some of whom I think will stay friends for a very long time, a grounding in research, some career brownie points, and a working knowledge of several amazing cities.  So many of my home friends have never ventured past the cafes and windows of Amsterdam, and I'm nagging all of them...

A CRAZY MIND CREATES CRAZY TIMES   I attended our Ireland TravBuddy Get-Together in Bunratty. Originally, I planned on spending six days in enchanting Eire before heading to Brussels for a four-day easyCruise riverboat journey ending in Amsterdam. However, I was informed that easyCruise’s partner handling this trip was canceling all remaining voyages.  Life has a habit of throwing us curves. I decided to turn this lemon into lemonade. I have visited a few Western a...

Again it was a sunny day when we left for Heidelberg on Friday. First I picked up Ket at the railwaystation in my hometown Zutphen. From there we drove to Zieuwent where Jos lives. He knew the exact shortcut from his house to the German Autobahn. Up to Düsseldorf to pick up Lauro. We know he likes sleeping a lot so for sure he didn't mind that we had some delay due to Ket's train not running on time and a lot of constructionwork on the road. Finaly we arrived in Düsseldorf around 1.30 pm. L...

After getting our stuff out of the room Mandy and I were ready to go back home. Downstairs we ran into Ante and Jeff wich was great so we could say goodbye properly then. They still had another day in Amsterdam left so that was nice! On the way back home people were actually staring at me since I kinda looked like a homeless person (and felt like one also) After travelling for 2,5 hours I was finally back in Uden. The tour bus pulled back into Dublin at about 6 in the evening, and awe all got off and went our separate ways.  I wanted to go to Scotland tomorrow, but I actually had no way of getting there, I had not even booked my flight!  So, I headed into an internet cafe and searched RyanAir.  There was a flight leaving at like 6 AM the next morning for Glasgow, and it ended up costing about $100.  It could have been much worse, so I booked the flight.  I grabbed some dinner s...
