Euro Youth Hotel and Krone

The Euro Youth Hotel/Hotel Krone is a little known gem nestled in the heart of the Alps in Bad Gastein Austria, a short train ride from both Munich and Vienna. The hotel provides one of the more affordable hotel stay options for winter and summer outdoor sport enthusiasts. The Augustiner Brewery created the dually named hotel as an affordable respite for mountain travelers and, of course they pour Augustiner beer exclusively.
The Euro Youth Hotel Company also has a Euro Youth Hotel in Munich, Germany. Company founder Günther Greschonig said his vision is to make the Euro Youth Hotel a gathering point for travellers from all over the world by offering quality accommodation at an affordable price.
The Euro Youth Hotel is in the basement of the main hotel and has dormitory style accommodations for backpackers on a budget. The Hotel Krone portion is in all the floors above ground, offering more typical hotel accommodations. Both hostel and hotel guests have access to free breakfast, a restaurant, Stuberl(cellar) Bar, TV Lounge and a gaming area with pool and ping pong tables.

Hotel manager Gert Nilsen has been running the hotel for 5 years, and he and his international staff greet customers from around the globe with a smile and are very helpful at helping navigate the varied activity options the Alps offer. In winter, they offer a phenomenal "Bed & Board" package for traveling backpackers from € 23, 50 per day. The package includes dorm bed, breakfast & ski/board hire. The hotel also offers similar summer package deals for river rafting, mountain biking, paragliding and canyoning.


For travelers who want a private hotel room, rates right now start at €27 for a single room and €44 for a double, with rates varying seasonally.

The hotel is located conveniently across the street from the train station and the main gondola, which runs in both summer and winter and right next door to the Felsen thermal spa.

In the third week of March every year, jazz musicians take over all of the restaurants and bars both on and off the ski mountain, performing live day and night all week long. The event, Snow Jazz Gastein, now in its 8th year features a Latin theme in 2009, running from March 21-29. The theme for next year has yet to be announced.
