Well i started by planing where i want to go. Then i looked up hostels. And if you know people in europe it helps. I have some friends that are going to show me around as well. I liked hostels.com for booking. But they only take credit card no bank cards. Look up the rating anything under 85% might be a bit scary. ( not clean, unsafe) once you find the hostels you like you can look for your transportation. Of course everyone knows eurorail. But make sure you check wheather you need reservations for any of your trips. You can make reservations at the train station of the corresponding city or some can be made at raileurope.com (but not all can be found.) so if you are going to vienna and you know that you're going to rome next make the reservation as soon as you get to the train station in vienna. there are tons of sites to get museum tickets in advance or tours around the city that you want to visit. And most cities and train stations have guide areas. Wher you can get free maps and info on whats going on in town. Also look at the local newpapers for any other info.
