Skydeck 88 at the top of Melbourne's Eureka Tower Dec 30, 2008
Skydeck 88 is the observation deck of Melbourne's Eureka Tower. Eureka Tower is Melbourne's tallest building and is Australia's second tallest building. After the Burj Dubai, Eureka Tower is the second tallest residential building in the world.

The 88th floor of the tower is dedicated to an observation deck. On a clear day, you can see for what I think is about 30 to 40 kilometers is all directions.

I was lucky in that I timed my visit perfectly. I went up to the skydeck sometime around 7 pm and was able to see as far as I could because it was a clear day and then I stayed to watch the sunset.

The windows are floor to ceiling, so the views are unobstructed. There are observation points around the deck, which tell you what you are looking at, as well as an outside terrace, which you can venture out onto to feel the winds at this height.

For an extra few bucks and a little waiting, you can go into the Edge, which is a glass-floored cube that extends beyond the building. I don't think it is worth it because you can't take your own pictures while inside and the waiting times can be up to an hour.

I highly recommend that visitors to Melbourne go up Eureka Tower to see the whole city. It's quite an experience.
