Eat like a local 1 Nov 01, 2009
Most all travel guides that talk about Djibouti always refer to who expensive it is to eat in this town. And for the most part they are correct, especially for us Westerners. The truth is that the locals do not typically make much money, yet they do eat. So going to the places they go is a good idea to find reasonable prices and good food.

One of these places in Djibouti is called the Ethiopian Community Center. It is located about 1/2 mile east of downtown, between a Mosque and a Christian Orthodox. It is best to ask a local for directions, or tell the taxis driver you want to go there.

You'll find some of the coldest beer in town, at a very the lowest price; 500 DF. You can have a mixed drink for 50 more DF.

The atmosphere is very pleasant, with outdoor seating. In the summer time it is hot, but so is Djibouti. In the fall, winter, and spring this is the place to be especially in the evening. Any of the food is good. They have great fries. I can have a beer, 2 beef stick, and fries for less than 1,000 DJ ($7).

Go there..
