The Et'hem Bej Mosque is situated in the main square Sheshi Skënderbej in Tirana. It is a little mosque but very valuable, a real master piece. The visit to this magnificiant mosque was the highlight of my trip to Tirana, something very precious and amazing.

The construction was finished in the 18th century and got the name after Haxhi Etëhem Bey Mollaj, the son of Molla Bey, who started the work. As usually every mosque it is a part of complex buildings around it, here was also a historical city center, a bazaar, a clock tower, a destroyed mosque of Suleyman pasha from the 17th century.

The mosque's walls are decorated with paintings such as trees, waterfalls, bridges, from its inside and outside. Inside the mosque on the right there are narrow stairs to get up to a women prayer section, from where you'll get a perfect view of the whole interior. At the entrance to the mosque's property there is a little box to give a donation, when you finish your visit.

I wonder if it's OK to simply enter the mosque and watch the people...

This mosque like others in the western Balkans has decorations in a style unusual for mosques in general. While many mosques all over the world are decorated, the decorations are not usually as figurative as those that you found in the Et'hem Bey mosque.
