Estrela do Mar Reviews

Excellent doorway into Salvador da Bahía You have to visit, if only to check the tiled staircase! Feb 27, 2008
The thing about Estrela is just one for me: They make you feel at home. They just do. Darío, at the front desk, will guide you from anything like taking the bus to the best time to check the sunset. And Sean, the owner, will take time himself to organise your schedule the best way depending on what you want to see/do.
The pousada is around the corner from the waterfront, so there's a myriad of bars and restaurants from which to choose (a MUST for me, I should say), be it that you are on a budget and decide to go for the 'kilo-lunch', or you want to, instead, go crazy on prawns, lobster or the famous Brazilina churrasco.
That, assuming you're hungry after the mouthwatering breakfasts Estrela serves, in which aside from taking care of just how you like your eggs, they'll keep pouring fresh fruit juice and freshly made coffee to accompany a great assortment of 'Bahian typicals', as I heard someone call them.
The only problem with it is getting to know Salvador, because the place is so nice that, from what I saw and lived, people tend to extend breakfast time talking to other guests who will be introduced to you by Dario or Kika the minute they walk into the charming little dining hall.
The rooms are good and the bathrooms are ok. The only problem was the TV set in my room, which did not get all channels at first, but 1.- People were very helpful and swift in solving the issue, and 2.- who needs a TV in Salvador!?
