Estes Park is much more than a small, quaint touristy town, just outside of Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. Even though the streets are lined with gift and souvenir shops, ice cream parlors, and places to eat there is so much more to see. Every year they have hundreds of elk come into town to mate and the Aspen starting to change colors in late September. The world renowned Stanley hotel is also located here where Steven King gained inspiration for "The Shining". Most still say this is one of the most haunted hotels in Colorado.
With the highest average elevation of any national park, including those in Alaska, Rocky Mountain National Park sits atop the Continental Divide.
