Estes Park is much more than a small, quaint touristy town, just outside of Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. Even though the streets are lined with gift and souvenir shops, ice cream parlors, and places to eat there is so much more to see. Every year they have hundreds of elk come into town to mate and the Aspen starting to change colors in late September. The world renowned Stanley hotel is also located here where Steven King gained inspiration for "The Shining". Most still say this is one of the most haunted hotels in Colorado.

The next morning we went back to the YMCA camp for a trail ride.  This is not a trail for beginners!  Eveyone over 6 needs their own horse and the trail is steep and rocky.  We didn't know what to except.  My aunt, who had never ridden a horse, was scared to death.  It is a little scary trusting a horse to carry you over rocks in the trail and around washouts.  You look off to the side and you see a steep drop off and hope your horse doesn't trip.  But the...

I recently traveled to Cheyenne, WY to visit a friend of mine who is living out there. The last week in July is Frontier Days which is the biggest event in Cheyenne all year. Its 10 days or rodeos, concerts and carnival rides. It was my first rodeo. I flew into Denver which is like an hour and a half from Cheyenne. We went to the rodeo, went to the Gretchen Wilson, Cowboy Troy and Big n Rich concert and then went to Estes Park, CO. Took a 3 hour horseback ride into the Rockies.

Estes Park, Colorado - Hiking Weekend: Estes Park Travel Photos
posted by:

A quick weekend trip where it involves nature is always a great refreshing break from our daily routine. Estes Park is a quaint little town w/ spectacular (i'm really running out of adjectives) views, mountains, lakes, hiking trails, and lots of fresh air. When I was in Estes Park, I felt like I was part of a story book. It's really cute. Although its quaintness can be borderline creepy, especially when I found out that the movie, The Shining was inspired by one of the hotels there...eek.
