 Stay on an Estancia Mar 21, 2004
To tell the truth, we only visited this estancia on a tour on the way to Perito Morino so I can't really say much about the rooms. However, I understand lots of people want to experience a stay at an estancia while in Argentina so I thought I'd give our impressions anyway,
This is the nearest estancia near El Calafate and we got to visit it on the way to Perito Moreno. Like a lot of estancias in Argentina, this one has gone to supplementing its income from sheepraising with tourism. There are rooms (quite nice I understand) and you can visit for a night of a traditional Argentine parrillada (BBQ). A demonstration of sheep-shearing is also quite the thing and the estancia offers excursions. The estancia is about half an hour outside of El Calafate, situated right at the shore of huge Lago Argentino, and a bit isolated, all pampas around you where you look. But the landscape sure is impressive! We got the impression that the estancia was a bit touristic but i might be mistaken in this impression.  Part of the Don't cry for me...
