Our tour of southern Mexico has now brought us to Oaxaca City. The first thing we noticed about the city is the wonderful climate, nestled between mountains and located well above sea level is the perfect equation for a sigh of relief from me. I even put jeans on today! This city is much larger then the previous ones we have visited and we have already been lost two or three times. (I blame lonely planet for this problem since our hostel was listed under...

So, we are in Oaxaca. Unfortunately, I only brought the travel book that included Chiapas/Yucatan, and so we are flying a bit blind. We ended up in a hostel without internet and had to take a photo of the map of the city at the bus station to figure out where we were going. Good thing Beau's camera has an excellent zoom feature. At the hostel we noticed our dorm-mate was out so we stole his travel book and wrote down a few restaurant suggestions. The only ac...

I was sitting around the palapa at my place a couple of weeks ago when my Canadian neighbors asked me how my Spanish was. "Decent," I said. "Do you want to go meet some friends of ours in Pluma Hidalgo?" they asked. "Sure!" Pluma Hidalgo is a small town in the mountains about an hour from Huatulco, which I had never yet been to. The town is famous for its organic, shade-grown coffee, planted amidst the forest on hillsides between 4000 and 5000 feet. It turns out my neighbors had befriended a ...

BUS JOURNEY
18 hours on a bus. Ill warn anyone planning on doing this to take food along as there are no stops to get something to eat!! The air-con is also pretty powerful so take warm clothes.
Our first driver dropped off his 3 mates before we could set off and he took us into total ghetto Mexico which was pretty scary stuff. He then proceeded to overtake on blind corners, use his mobile and generally not pay attention.
Second driver was a speed freak, and to the sound of his pumpin...

From the plane I see mountains and farming fields. I have been traveling on a red eye. From the window I see people standing off to the side of the runway to greet their family members. I don' t see Luis though. But, when I walk inside the terminal I see him pretty quickly on the other side of security. I am so happy to see him that I ignore any directionals that there might have been to tell me I need to get my checked baggage and go through customs. He leaves his backpack unattended and I g...

Today Jerry and I made our way south of the Zocolo to the market to
check out the arts and crafts and have lunch in the covered food
market. All the people in the food market were trying to wave us
towards their tables and we had to run the gauntlet to get to a stall
that wasn't so vocal. We sat down and the lady asked us what we wanted
but we had no idea. She was rambling in Spanish naming off all the
things to eat but we were bewildered and didn't know what everythin...

Pictures of my trip to Mexico in december 2007. This time I went to the veracruz area. When you go in country from Veracruz, let's say 200 km, that's where paradise is. Beautiful ! Anyway, lot's of beautiful places everywhere of course.

So after a long bus journey (16 hours!!) we arrived to a baking hot bus station. We transferred onto what can only be described as a truck with benches in the back, and headed to a coast village called Zipolite. When we arrived the smiles grew as the sky was as blue as the water and ASAP the swimming shorts and bikini were on to spend the day in the sand and the sea. The first night we slept in a dorm which was recommened by LP, but the second night we found some on beach Cabanas and settled ...
