If you get a chance the day trip to the Atlas Mountains (about 2 hours away) is great. Also there is a very interesting fishing town called Essaouira on the Atlantic coast which you can get to by bus (including a nice one called supertours I think) or organised trip. They have expanses of beach there, although it can be a bit windy. takes about 3 hours each way from Marrakech. You can stay a few days there though.

The strangest thing I did in Marrakech was after giving a waiter a tip, early the next day he offered to show me the old city on the back of his bike. A hair raising trip through the narrow streets followed, past no entry signs, giant holes and gasps of shock from fellow tourists. What a morning!

Essaouira   We took a train at 6:00am to Marrakesh where we rented a car at 370DH ($46 Canadian, kinda pricey) for the day which was way worth it.  We drove directly to Essaouira and spent two days there taking in the sights… Exploring the Atlas mountains

I am excited to go shopping tomorrow here and in Essaouira.  I really havent bought much yet and this is the best place to haggle. All the girls on the trip have been talking about the hammam coming up in Essaouira.  It is kind of like an all female Moroccan steam bath… Marrakech...finally some real food

Surprisingly, the drink of choice here in Morocco is hot mint tea.....yes, I said HOT mint tea.  After coming in from the scorching heat, hot mint tea is waiting.  It is very surprisingly refreshing and delicious. Tomorrow, we are headed to Essaouira.  I cant wait! … Marrakech continued

Only then she realized I had bought it for her… and she would use it wisely to bribe a friend into giving us a free lift to Essaouira!!! Well done Marcie again! I entered the Palais de la Bahia. Entrance fee was 10Dhr. The name Bahia means “Brilliant”… which has nothing to do with its Portuguese form Bahia which means “bay”. It is a magnificent palace built in the end of the 19 th century… Second day in Marrakech
